Over the years I learned how to minimize 3D rendering time without sacrificing the visual quality of the image. Whenever possible I construct my 3D images in such a way that the final hi-res rendering time is rarely over two hours. But this one is heavy on refraction and transparency and some of the textured surfaces looked so jaggy with standard anti-aliasing settings that I had to increase it to the highest available. This obviously greatly increased the rendering time: from 16 minutes to over 10 hours at 7200 x 4096 pixels on my 3GHz dual core CPU, but it was worth it :)
@JFernandoGRS thanks, I really like Starry Isles as well. It is somewhat different from my recent space artwork, but I really like the colors and the mood. It's a lovely piece :)
