Title: Colony

Future mining colony on a faraway alien planet... I worked on this Sci-fi image for several weeks, mostly after school and during weekends back in the mid 90's. I submitted it to a computer graphics competition at The Party'96. Unfortunately it ranked very low, at 94'th place. I was quite disappointed as I thought it deserved a much better ranking. The good thing was that Colony turned out to be a popular Sci-Fi wallpaper and I received many fan emails from people around the world. And in 1997 this image was featured in a Polish computer graphics magazine GFX. This was the first time that my artwork appeared in a magazine :)

This is the level of skill I dream of reaching. You use your tools so well to create these great pics. Everything about this is so vibrant and eye pleasing. Great job!

OH, MY ....... WOW!how dod you do this? it doesn't look real. i mean it looks too real to be.. well... real. i love the moons and is that water or fog?

Cosmic Castaway wrote:March 2, 2001

I like the tilted effect, makes you feel like your in a jet thingy and there. Very lifelike.

Robin wrote:March 1, 2001

ok, u must have used a PC programme to draw that right? u cant have drawn that!

Emily Sue Rigelsky wrote:March 1, 2001

i love the use of fog here...it really gives a sense that you are high up off the ground...if there is one down there :)

Crazy Chilean wrote:November 29, 2000

*Falls off his chair* man, its tight, so tight that my head thought it was real, and i was sideways, and i fell off my chair! seriously! very tight lines, suggesting cleanlyness, which is cool.

Olivia Vega Tan wrote:June 3, 2000

Oooh, beauty! The detail is superb, especially the snow on the mountains, the moons and the spacecraft. The mist is fantastic, well done! I like how it's done at an angle... sure gives more interest to the whole thing! Lovely!

Very good picture, the cloud effect is very well done. The textures on the buildings are well made.

I *LOOOOVE* it! You rock! *breathes deeply* I will now try to be cool and calm. Very superior picture. I wish I could do anything half this good. Two thumbs waaay up.

Anthony Docimo wrote:June 3, 1999

would you consider a commision? either a lightly colonized Mars, or another planet? Artistic disgresion would be the deciding vote. {translation: you'd have the last word}!

John Teall wrote:May 28, 1999

pretty sky - air looks like it ought to be breathable - whaich probably makes it double deadly... i've worked on a mineral drill rig out in nevada and when my dad was working for the railroad at norden lived in company housing - and believe it or not have a certain fondness for such settings - i wonder if there's a little boy growing up in one of those domes whos dad works for the company...

Lord Azzur wrote:April 17, 1999

Man , you are crazy! Only a mad can draw like this! What a hell this program do?! The fog is totaly realistic , but I didn´t like the ships , it´s so much unreal. But the scenario is perfect! Go work to Blizzard ok?! :D

Sim wrote:February 13, 1999

WOW! Really great lookin'!! I'm looking forward to see the same type of pictures, but maybe in a different theme (still SciFi of course) that would look like YOUR work. No offense, but I've seen pics that look almost exactly like this...Please tell me what program was used in the making of this pic though!!

Iria wrote:January 9, 1999

YOU MUST SEND ME THE INFORMATION ON THE PROGRAM THAT YOU USE TO CREAT THIS TYPE OF STUFF! ! ! ! ! IT IS AWESOME. I THINK MAYBE SOMETIME IN THE VERY DISTANT FUTURE I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING REMOTELY SIMILAR, OR MAYBE A TRIFLE AS GOOD! !

Lady Fianna wrote:January 8, 1999

Briony wrote:December 1, 1998

One must be very careful when rendering fog, but I do believe you carry it off to perfection.

Paul D. wrote:July 30, 1998

Damn your GOOD!!!.. what program are you useing??

Kennock wrote:March 22, 1998

Nick, that's not water, but the building on the right is extremly tall. The rest of them are either below or inside the clouds. Very beautiful David!

Nick wrote:February 9, 1998

umm is that water and reflected buildings? or buildings underwater? It looks awsome though I will use it as my backdrop.

Hmmm, wow.... I love the city down in the fog....the fog hides just enough detail to make it looks really good....Really good.

Grazum wrote:November 18, 1996

Great pic!, you do this for a living don't you? I think that the ships look bit "computer generated" compared to the background. (i ask too much huh?)

Steven wrote:October 10, 1996

Wow! I actually felt like I was there looking down onto the buildings, I almost got scared of heights for a second there!!

Andrew G wrote:October 9, 1996

Love the pic. Just a question, it seems like the aircraft/speeders look very much like the ones in your other pics (Outpost, On the path, etc). Any reason?

Heather wrote:October 5, 1996

Do you do posters? I'd love to have some if you do.
