Title: Dezerted city

I became fascinated by Sci-Fi art after seeing Star Wars in the 80's. It is mindboggling how influential a single movie can be - especially on a teenager :) All the wonderful Sci-Fi art designed by Ralph McQuarrie and other Star Wars artists is still a great source of inspiration for me.

While working on this image my inspiration was Jabba the Hutt's Palace.

??? Nice holiday picture. Where did you take it?

Ralph Vaughan wrote:Jun 7, 1999

Nicely done and very evocative. I have a weakness for riverside and seaside ports. The reflection is a nice counterpoint to the city itself and the pale moons.

Vincent L. Byers wrote:May 31, 1999

Can anyone say VERY GOOD? Even though it does look a little like Mos Eisely the roundness of the buildness adds a certain mysterious look to it. Good job!

John Teall wrote:May 28, 1999

well you draw a poly line to the contour you wand and rotate it - the model work itself isn't - for the most part in this case doesn't look all that complex. what makes it is chouice of materials, composition, balance that sort of thing and of course the light sources inside the afterthrust on the ships and basicly just not overlooking ANYTHING. and if you find you have in the first render going back and fixing it and running render again (and again and again until everything is just right). and that takes work and craft and immagination and i salute the artist (though again not the context he created for it in this case) background and fog depth cue are also appearently key elements well exicuted.

Okay... HOW did you model this?!

Scatter wrote:Apr 2, 1999

I love this picture! It does look alot like like Mos Eisly in STAR WARS, though. Oh well, LOVE IT!

The earthtones of this picture really coincide well with the desert setting

Walter White wrote:Sep 28, 1998

That picture remindes me of Star Wars. Great picture!!!!

Ronin wrote:Sep 18, 1998

The VERY last thing you would ever see in your life is a beat up space ship, too important to keep the exterior in good condition.

HawkMan wrote:May 21, 1998

Now that's what I didn't like in new movies like Alien 4 for example the Cruiser was all rusted inside ,DAMN I I WEN'T ABOARD A SPACE CRUISER AND IT WAS ALL RUSTED I WOULD GET OFF REALLY FAST.

Paul Hayter wrote:May 15, 1998

And besides, the smooth look gives that feel of tranquility and emtyness that I think he was going for. Great Work

Kelly Poull wrote:Mar 26, 1998

Good Picture! By the way, Antiphoton, how often have you seen a modern fighter that was scratched up and dusty? I've been to many an air show, and have yet to see a beat up anything there.

Danoyvil Windancor wrote:Feb 19, 1998

Maybee in the future they have envented metal that doesnt rust or scratch.

AntiPhoton wrote:Jan 8, 1998

Why does the spaceships in all your pictures look like they just came from the fabric? Wheres the dust? the scratches?
