The Artist

that's me Born and raised in Poland, I have been drawn to the world of images since early childhood. As a small boy I often browsed through my dad's vast library of books on art and architecture. I could spend whole evenings doing just that. Rarely reading anything, I looked at the pictures while absorbing the story each image told me. Illustrated encyclopedias were also among my favorites. I believe this was the time which taught me more than just the fundamentals of image creation.

During my late teens at the end of the 80's and while living in Scandinavia, I got fascinated by the Amiga 500 demos and games. This fascination was highly influential on me and eventually got me started doing my own graphics. During this time I also got deeply attracted to Sci-Fi and Fantasy art mainly by looking at covers in book stores. I pixelled my first image, using 32 colors, in 1993. In mid 90's I began creating 3D images and started putting them online.

After high school I considered studying computer science. However, since my online gallery generated so much positive feedback, including job offers, I decided to give computer graphics a serious try. I never regretted that decision. My career started as a 3D artist working on "The Longest Journey" PC game at Funcom, Norway. Later I moved to USA to work on "Unreal 2" and other computer games at Legend Entertainment.

I'm now back in Scandinavia, running a small one-man business (Eon Works), doing freelance and contract work. Being self-employed is a lot of work. Besides doing art I also have to take care of the business side of things, and maintain this website. Still, the benefits of having more freedom in my life makes it all worth it.

Besides art, my major interests include health and nutrition, computer programming (I actually designed this website and wrote all scripts for it), anthropology, and the paranormal. I read quite a bit, both online and books.

I wish I had more time to watch TV. Discovery Channel, National Geographic and Animal Planet are among my favorite channels. I especially enjoy watching documentaries about Nature and early or "primitive" humans. Such documentaries have given me many unique insights into the nature of life as a whole. In contrast with written or verbal communication, there is no distortion of the visual information. You get it in a raw state as is - a direct input from the source. Documentaries or not, watching TV can be enlightening at times.

I like simplicity and frugal lifestyle. I'm easygoing, somewhat eccentric, and enjoy solitude when possible. I love exercise and stay in good shape. Although I'm very open minded I'm also very skeptical. I guess in the end there is no way of being certain of anything unless you experienced it yourself or have deep knowledge of it. And even then you can't be certain, or can you? Life is a funny thing...

About my art

I see my work as a combination between the necessity of making a living and the enjoyment it brings me. While the creative process lets me escape the madness of modern life, each completed work nourishes my being. I don't seek perfection (there is none), or try to follow any style or philosophy. I do what I feel is right for any particular image. Some are best rough and loose, while others may need plenty of detail and complex structure. Similarly, technical correctness can be less important to the meaning of expression. It all depends on a variety of factors within the unique context of each image.

The symbolic expression which one can communicate through carefully crafted imagery is a powerful tool. I can only hope that my work evokes a sense of wonder in the viewer, powerful enough to induce a timeless state of mind - for a moment or two. And prompt a journey through undiscovered dimensions and insights that only the viewer himself can undergo. For the phenomenon of art is truly experienced when one is transformed by the visual expression of its maker. Such moments of transformation, however experienced, are the rare glimpses of the unordinary mind states that transcend everyday reality.

Favorite music

ABBA - amazing how many hits they made.
Amiga modules - from the demo scene.
DJ Tiesto - awesome dance music DJ.
Italo Disco - European electronic dance music of the 80's.
Jean Michel Jarre - electronic music pioneer.
KOTO - space synth electronic music.
Laser Dance - space synth electronic music.
Protonic Storm - a more recent, fantastic space synth musician.
Modern Talking - pop/dance from the 80's.
Steve Roach and many other ambient musicians.
Vangelis - composed wonderful music for several movies.
+ Countless Pop/Rock hits from the 80's and plenty of electronica.

Perhaps one of my all time favorite ambient tracks is Jean Michel Jarre's "Waiting for Cousteau" from his "Waiting for Cousteau" album. A 45 minutes long journey into ambience of enigmatic sound worlds. I only listen to it late at night prior bed time, as that creates a metaphysical atmosphere. Great for reading about mysticism or paranormal matters.
